For [we are not] ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. { Rom 1:16-17 KJV}

Sunday Message

"THE DAY OF PENTECOST"

Acts 2:1-47

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. (Act 2:1-2 NAS95)

OPENING PRAYER

Mighty Father, Author of life, what a privilege we receive from You on this Holy Day; To be vicarious witness to the birth of Your Church and introduction of the Holy Spirit unto those who will confess Your name. With humble hearts and souls we thank You for this majestic favor in the name of Jesus the Christ, AMEN

MESSAGE

{Smith's Bible Dictionary has provided the most understandable Pentecost description and the relationship to the Jewish First Harvest Feast, the Passover and arrival of The HOLY SPIRIT as promised by Jesus, our Lord that is, the fiftieth day, (from a Greek word, meaning fiftieth), or Harvest Feast, or Feast of Weeks, it can be regarded as a supplement to the Passover.}

Unlike these multi day/weeks celebrations, Pentecost lasts for but one day. On the Jewish Calendar, from the sixteenth of Nisan, seven weeks resulted in 49 days and the next or fiftieth day the Day of Pentecost, which fell on the sixth of Sivan, (about the end of May). The book of Numbers, Chapter 28 in the Old Testament provides further sacrificial related instructions for this period.

The Pentecost was the Jewish [harvest-home-coming], and the people were especially exhorted to rejoice before THE LORD with their families their servants, the Levite within their gates, the stranger, the fatherless and the widow, in the place chosen by God, for his name, as they brought free-will offerings, of their hand to God.

The great feature of the celebration was the presentation of the two loaves made from the first-fruits of the wheat harvest. With the loaves, two lambs were offered as a Peace Offering, and all were waved before [GOD], and given to the priests; the [bread] being leavened, could not be offered on the altar.

The Pentecost is the only one of the three great feasts, which is not mentioned as the memorial of events, in the history of the Jews; but such a significance has been found in the fact, that the law was given from Sinai, on the fiftieth day after the deliverance from Egypt. . {TEN Commandments}

The typical significance of the Pentecost is made clear, from the events of the day recorded, in the Acts of the Apostles. Acts 2. Just as the appearance of God on Sinai was the birthday of the Jewish nation, so was the Pentecost, the birthday of the Christian Church.

Lets join SCRIPTURE now: The Coming of the Holy Spirit; --> When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. There were about 120 gathered.

And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.

Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language. They were amazed and astonished, saying, "Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? "And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born?"

Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabswe hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God." And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, "What does this mean?" But others were mocking and saying, "They are full of sweet wine." (Act 2:1-13 NAS95)

But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: "Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words.

"For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day; but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel: 'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says, 'THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS; EVEN ON MY BOND SLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT And they shall prophesy.

'AND I WILL GRANT WONDERS IN THE SKY ABOVE AND SIGNS ON THE EARTH BELOW, BLOOD, AND FIRE, AND VAPOR OF SMOKE. 'THE SUN WILL BE TURNED INTO DARKNESS AND THE MOON INTO BLOOD, BEFORE THE GREAT AND GLORIOUS DAY OF THE LORD SHALL COME. 'AND IT SHALL BE THAT EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.'

"Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know— this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death. "But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.

"For David says of Him, 'I SAW THE LORD ALWAYS IN MY PRESENCE; FOR HE IS AT MY RIGHT HAND, SO THAT I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN. 'THEREFORE MY HEART WAS GLAD AND MY TONGUE EXULTED; MOREOVER MY FLESH ALSO WILL LIVE IN HOPE; BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO HADES, NOR ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY. 'YOU HAVE MADE KNOWN TO ME THE WAYS OF LIFE; YOU WILL MAKE ME FULL OF GLADNESS WITH YOUR PRESENCE.'

"Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. "And so, because he was a prophet and knew that GOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE, he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that HE WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His flesh SUFFER DECAY.

(Act 2:14-47 NAS95)

It was on this day, PENTECOST, over two thousand years ago, that THE CHURCH OF GOD was introduced, PUBLICLY to the World.

On this first day, the reward for the Church was great in that THREE THOUSAND, perhaps a bit more, confessed JESUS answering His call, were added to the 120 original followers of Jesus the Christ and were Baptized in the TRINITY, IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

The TRUE CHURCH OF GOD is the NOMINATION CHURCH, The UNIVERSAL CHRISTIAN Church. All other Christian Churches are DENOMINATIONS; Most but not all hold true to The authority of the Holy Bible where the Word of GOD testifies that in Revelations, saying: I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. (Rev 1:8 KJV)

CLOSING PRAYER

Almighty God, how very blessed we all are to gather in fellowship in the name of our Christ Jesus, to feel His presence, the very presence of You Father, through the Holy Spirit given us, and by the sacrifice Your beloved Son gave to the whole world. Thank-You, Lord for the opportunity to re-connect to the One True Church of God through Jesus the Christ, AMEN
