SUNDAY, THE LORD'S DAY
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. (Rom 1:16-17 kjv)
GREETINGS: Hello beloved! May the peace of our Lord Jesus be with you today and every day, Amen.
SYNOPSIS: Wisdom. A most important character trait and often elusive to the flesh. Wisdom is readily available or...readily elusive by choice. Who's choice you ask? YOURS! Lets travel together along the trail of wisdom and see why WISDOM is such a big deal!
OPENING PRAYER: Almighty Creator, Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, thank You for gathering us together today, in fellowship, that we might grow and be collectively accountable to follow the Lord's will and guidance. Open our eyes, ears and souls so that we might receive the Lord's Message for us on this Holy day, through Jesus, AMEN.
THE "WORD":
WISDOM
Our source of wisdom and Biblical justification comes to us from Proverbs and the Book of James, along with sage advise from a Grandfather Curly Logan, My Grand Father on my mother's side.
Grandpa's nickname was "Curly". He had pure white hair and when the humidity pressed upwards, his white hair would curl up, thus the moniker "Curly". He was a career Rail Road man, staring as a fireman on steam locomotives, then engineer graduating to Turntable Master and eventually section foreman.
A man of few words but used this preface a lot!: "A WISE MAN WOULD"... The statement was a caution preceding many short conversations, especially when guiding a precocious kid like me! If his advise was disregarded, as this kid would often do, I learned quickly that my day was about to turn ugly! I had done something very UNWISE!
As the Section Foreman Grandpa was responsible for a very long stretch of track, and included constant inspections of tracks and ties along with sidings and switches. Weeding was also on that list. that was the task on the following day.
Gramps hired me to operate the Motor Car and keep it slow, nice and easy with no jerky starts or stops while the crew on the flat bed could burn away the weeds which could impend the tracks if not maintained. In the past, I had done very well operating the Motor Car. I was 10 years old and was taught, by my grandfather. He would always tell me that WISDOM was required when operating any railroad equipment!
Did I do the WISE thing that day? NOPE! My cavalier and UNWISE goofing around caused one of the workers to tumble off of the flat trailer, while holding a long handled burning blow torch. The worker was not hurt, no fire extension, but Grandpa immediately FIRED ME! In front of the crew He told me to "Get my rear-end back to the section house!" (a mile away.) GO...GIT!
That was the longest and loneliness mile I ever walked. The penalty for being UNWISE! Gramps FIRED ME! In adulthood, the lack of wisdom can kill. I learned a very WISE lesson that day, long ago.
Turning to Proverbs now, we focus on an "UNWISE" woman and compare the result with a woman who had and practiced WISDOM;
(Pro 9:13-18) (13) The woman of folly is boisterous, She is naive and knows nothing. (14) She sits at the doorway of her house, On a seat by the high places of the city, (15) Calling to those who pass by, Who are making their paths straight: (16) "Whoever is naive, let him turn in here," And to him who lacks understanding she says, (17)"Stolen water is sweet; And bread eaten in secret is pleasant." (18) But he does not know that the dead are there, That her guests are in the depths of [HELL] {Sheol.}
This same scene plays out hundreds of times each day all around the world. God does not send us to HELL. WE send ourselves willingly through the decisions we make, the people we associate with, in whom we believe!
A dear friend recently told me about a bumper sticker that got his attention. The sticker simple read;
ETERNITY BOUND?
SMOKING? or NON-SMOKING?
We looked at each other in silence for a few seconds, then he said "Kinda sums it all up, huh? YES...I responded.
(Pro 9:1-12) [Another woman whose name is Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars; [meaning that her foundation was built to PERFECTION, the number SEVEN signifies as such] (2) She has prepared her food, she has mixed her wine; She has also set her table; (3) She has sent out her maidens, she calls From the tops of the heights of the city: (4) "Whoever is naive, let him turn in here!" To him who lacks understanding she says, (5) "Come, eat of my food And drink of the wine I have mixed. (6) "Forsake your folly and live, And proceed in the way of understanding." (7) He who corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself, And he who reproves a wicked man gets insults for himself. (8) Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you, Reprove a wise man and he will love you. (9) Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning. (10) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. (11) For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you. (12) If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you alone will bear it. (Pro 9:1-12 nasb)
They call this WISDOM. Those who are lacking in this regard (and there are so many) are on the Super Highway to Hell, and the SMOKING SECTION.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
(Jas 1:5)
Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. But the WISDOM from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
(Jas 3:13-18)
Nearly 2/3rds of the earth's human population will decide to ignore the warnings and willfully commit themselves to eternity in total darkness, burning forever in the fires of Hell, always in the active process of dying. Dying that never will be completed, the pain, agony and separation from God suffering forever. Our decisions, our behavior, our egos, and lack of WISDOM all combine to reward the effort with pain and sorrow instead of joy and happiness in His Light. Remember, it is your decision! Be wise, choose well. The end of days is nigh!
CLOSING PRAYER: Almighty God, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, we pray Thee open the eyes of those who are blind to the danger. Of those who are hopelessly lost having forgotten the narrow way. Open their eyes and ears, O' Lord, to hear and see the only way, being clearly written in Holy Scripture. May their hard hearts be softened from the inside out, and may their blind eyes SEE and they who are lost be FOUND. In the name above all names JESUS the CHRIST, AMEN
